The New Johto Dex

The Johto Dex was the first regional Dex and remains the most unique of all regional Dexes to date. The reason for that is because it is the only regional Dex to incorporate all Pokémon in existence (at the time it was introduced), which includes starters from another region. Both the Hoenn and Sinnoh Dexes do not do this. At the time there were 251 Pokémon known and the Johto Dex included all of them, which also makes the Johto Dex the largest regional Dex to date.

Initial screenshots of the Johto Dex from HeartGold and SoulSilver have revealed the new numbers for some Pokémon. Family trees have been filled in based on the placement of at least one member of the family.

With the release of HeartGold/SoulSilver the JohtoDex has been slightly modified. Five new Pokémon, native initially to Sinnoh, have been added (Yanmega, Ambipom, Lickilicky, Tangrowth and Mamoswine). These Pokémon are placed in the Dex in line with their family members, which changes the positioning of Pokémon listed after they are added. As such the changes get more drastic the higher the position of the monster.
