Pokémon black and white

The fifth generation Pokémon game names have just been revealed on the official site. The names are Pokémon Black and White. The site says more information will be revealed about the games on the 15th of this month.

An important thing to note from the new logos is the fact that the Nintendo DS logo appears along with them. Considering commentary that has already been made about the games this is likely a confirmation that the games will in-fact be released on the Nintendo DS despite some speculation from the fanbase that the games will be released on the upcoming 3DS system.

Another minor note: These names were copyrighted in April of last year, along with: Grey, Crimson and Scarlett. We're already seeing a lot of speculation regarding the third game's name, though it really is too far out to even be thinking about these things, Grey does fit this scenario.

We will have more regarding the games as information comes. We do expect quite a bit more over the next week as Pokémon Sunday is slated to reveal some information along with CoroCoro.

The blog of Junichi Masuda, GAME FREAK's Director of Development, has just been updated. The translated post says the following (click the previous link to view it untranslated):

At last the titles for the brand new Pokémon games we've been working on has been revealed!

Pocket Monsters: Black

Pocket Monsters: White

We are putting in much time and effort to drive every little bit of quality these titles have as high as possible.

We want these titles to be enjoyable to those who have played the series up until this point, to those who have never played the series yet, and this time even to those who figure they've graduated and moved on from the Pokémon series by now.

We want to have as many people as possible enjoy these titles.

The Pokémon series will be reborn in an innovative way due to these titles.

Please stay tuned!

Original Post for April 8, 2010

Well, our previous post was made on April Fool's Day and we obviously didn't mean it! So, with that in mind where is PLDH headed over the coming weeks and months?

Did you know we have over 80 detailed pages covering HeartGold and SoulSilver? Be sure to check out our HGSS section for a ton of information and answers you may not have known that you had.

First off, we are completely prepared for the upcoming Fifth Generation news rush. News from CoroCoro is expected literally any minute (we base this on the perceived leak which generally comes prior to the magazine's actual street date, which is the fifteenth), and on Saturday we'll be getting some information from Pokémon Sunday. So be sure to keep checking back for our Generation Five coverage.

Secondly, we are preparing a major set of updates for the website. You won't see any major changes until later in May but work has already begun. Things you can expect to see during the update include: improved menus, an updated PokéDex and two new sibling Dexes as well as expansions to Tracker and a brand new homepage! Stay tuned for more in-depth news regarding the updated site, dubbed "42" for version 4.2.0, in the coming weeks.

We've saved the best for last, in our opinion. You may have noticed a new affiliate button on the bottom of our page, or maybe not. It is true, we do have a brand new affiliate and our proud to officially announce it. PREO stands for Pokémon ReOrchestrated. What is it? Well we hooked up with a friend on Youtube who's musical renderings really impressed us. User Skotein has taken Pokémon soundtracks and turned them into orchestral rearrangements which sound absolutely fantastic. Check out the video below, which features some of his work, and don't forget to check out his pages if you like it.

Cool, I forgot about that "source" link >_>

So, what do you think the theme will be this time?
I think something along the lines of right/wrong or something.

It's definitely interesting that they would go back to colours, and the design of the Poke Balls are old fashioned.

As well, the director's blog has updated: http://www.gamefreak.co.jp/blog/dir/?p=238

Here it is run through Google Translate...

April 9, 2010.
PR was completely new titles we are developing at last!

"Pokettomonsutaburakku"
"Pokettomonsutahowaito"

We are a little bit to enhance quality,
Are spending more time on this work now.

As you can happily enjoy even to those who until now.
To satisfy those who have never played well.
And this time, people think that Pokemon graduate.

Many people want to enjoy.
Are produced in such a thought.

The film, is reborn as revolutionary Pokemon.

Please stay tuned.

Seriously though, sounds like a plausible theme.

Well, personally, I'm getting an old school vibe from this, so far.

Couple of things:
And this time, people think that Pokemon graduate.

Many people want to enjoy.
Are produced in such a thought.

I'm probably daydreaming but it sounds like a broader appeal is being worked on.

Also, look at the Pokeballs in the logos. They just feel nostalgic.

And then there is the names themselves, colours. A return to form circa GenI.

Teej, Ze and I have been discussing the potential rebootness sense that we are all three feeling at this point. We've even tossed around Gen0 but don't take it to mean anything other than what it is, pure speculation.

Yeah, I don't know a thing about this, but for some reason I feel this is going to be incredible. The whole approach seems... more, than the other games. Plus those are the classiest logos yet.

Anyone else feel like this is going to be the best regional map to date? I feel like this is going to be a really really diverse region.

I hope so. More than anything, I hope the up the card size. If they don't... I'm not sure they'll taking this to full potential. As with HGSS.

They seriously do need to up the cart size... and learn from HGSS mistakes.

As far as the region goes, I get both a new and incredibly modern vibe. I really hope Pokemon Sunday isn't just showing off the exact same thing.

I feel like Sunday did a lot more with Platinum than it did with HGSS. The coverage was mediocre in the beginning, omg Pokeathlon, but they just dropped off after that.

Platinum, I suppose, had more to discuss prerelease though. Either way, if they equal their Platinum coverage this could be a good bit of news from them... Hopefully.
Ze Colonel

Agreed. Sunday's coverage was incredibly lack luster, but then again, they didn't have much to show off, did they? Hopefully, presented with a new generation, there's more information to go around. I'd prefer as little as possible of just them taking off towels from canvases to reveal the logos and such.

I have really high hopes for this game, as stated, because like we (Teej, nza and I) were discussing on MSN, this game really feels like it'll be more refined just based on the names alone. Like, you couldn't slap these names onto Diamond and Pearl; it just wouldn't feel right, you know? Each game's name truly has represented the game properly, personally, so with these names, the least colourful of it's kind, I'm looking forward to see what we're looking at.

I also hope they don't just rework the battle presentation from previous games, and general presentation I'm hoping is spruced up or altered. All for the sake of not feeling like "we've been here, done that".

That's what I'm hoping BW will be.

Well... Anything less than what we were speculating last night, REBOOT, would be a let-down after reading that improved translation. I think it may be safe to say that anticipating DPP redux is not only out of the question but ignorant.

And then there were...

Pokemon Sunday did more than just reveal the logos on canvases!

THEY MADE THEM FLASH ON THE SCREEN. They have plans for revealing some screens next week, but the chances of those being more than what we've seen on CoroCoro? Unlikely.

Next news should come with higher quality scans on CoroCoro and the site on Wednesday, and the site will probably reveal the protagonist arts and such as well.

Oh man I wish I could say that those balls feel nostalgic but the first game I played was FireRed.....
