When a Sandstorm is active Pokémon of the Rock type will recieve a boost in their Special Defense stat of 150%, or 1.5 times the value it held prior to the storm.
Any Pokémon with Ground, Rock, or Steel as its type (or part of its typing) will not recieve damage from the storm. If the Pokémon does not have one of those types it will lose 6.25% (1/16) of it's health at the end of every turn.
A Pokémon holding the item Smooth Rock will prolong the duration of a Sandstorm for three more turns than normal (from five turns to eight turns).
Sandstorm's affect on Abilities
|Sand Stream||This ability will summon a sandstorm which will last the entirety of the battle, unless another weather condition is introduced to the battlefield or it's effect is nullified by Cloud Nine or the Air Lock abilities.|
|Sand Veil||In battle a Pokémon with Sand Veil will get a 120% boost in Evasion.
In the wild, if in the first position with this ability in a Sandstorm, the wild encounter rate drops by 50%.
Sandstorm's affect on Moves
|Sandstorm||This move will summon (or prolong) a Sandstorm for 5 turns.|
|Morning Sun||25% of the user's HP is restored, when Morning Sun used.|
|Moonlight||25% of the user's HP is restored, when Moonlight used.|
|Synthesis||25% of the user's HP is restored, when Synthesis used.|
|Solarbeam||Solarbeam's base power drops 50% (from 120 to 60).|
|Weatherball||Weatherball becomes type. It's base power doubles from 50 to 100. Castform will not recieve STAB from Weatherball in a Sandstorm.|
