While attract is not a true status, its battle effects are noteworthy and for the purpose of this guide will be referred to as a status effect, due to similarities. This status condition can currently only be inflicted on an opponent in one of two ways. The first, and more common, is by use of the move Attract and the other is with the ability Cute Charm.
Pokémon afflicted with infatuation will only be able to attack 50% (1/2) of the time. While this is very detrimental to an opponent there is a large gamble the user takes when using 1 of the 4 available moveslots for infatuation. This is because the status will only succeed if the foe is of the opposite gender. Attraction also does not work on genderless Pokémon.
The Cute Charm ability will activate at a rate of 30% (3/10) of the time when the Pokémon with Cute Charm is hit by a physical attack. For this to be successful the attacker must also be of the opposite gender.
The hold item Destiny Knot is useful only for mirroring the infatuation status back to the user. What I mean is, if a Pokémon is afflicted with infatuation while holding Destiny Knot the Pokémon that inflicted the status will also become infatuated.
The hold item Mental Herb is a single use item that will activate when the Pokémon that is holding it becomes infatuated. This item will remove the status and will disappear. It can be used again if the Pokémon uses Recycle.
