The first major 3DS update has gone live and as a result the PokéDex 3D app (which can be downloaded for free) is now up for grabs! This update removes the 3D music video that was on the device but opened up the eShop and the 3DS' internet browser, which can also be used while playing games. To boot, you can also get yourself a free download of a remake of ExciteBikes as of right now until July 7th. Everyone who downloads the PokéDex 3D app 16 starter Pokémon, and everyone who has it is surely looking for their favourite Pokémon. What Pokémon are there at launch? Snivy, Servine, Serperior, Oshawott, Dewott, Samurott, Tepig, Pignite, Emboar, Emolga, Foongus, Audino, Minccino, Scraggy, Axew and Hydreigon.

How it works is, instead of QR Codes as previously reported, each Pokémon has its own "AR Sticker." This, in all actuality, works exactly like a QR Code, only it is specifically made for the PokéDex 3D app. The truly irritating fact is that unlike QR Codes, these AR Stickers cannot be exported. Instead, they seem to need to be recreated, so we've gotten to work on recreating them. In addition to that, you can also make "Photo Stickers," which is what you get when you scan a picture of an AR Pokémon. It'll automatically unlock the data just like an AR Sticker would. Maybe you'd like to help their cause and submit your AR Sticker to PLDH? We hope to host all AR Stickers for all available Pokémon so that people may be able to obtain the Pokémon they wish to have. Below is how exactly you find our AR Sticker. We have Audino's sticker placed below as an example.

  • Start up the PokéDex 3D app and go to view a Pokémon.
  • When viewing the Pokémon, look for this button and click it.
  • An enlarged version of your AR Sticker should appear.
  • From here, you can try and recreate the general shape shown.
  • Note that as these are expected to be hand drawn, it doesn't have to be perfect: the Dewott picture above is actually on a very blurry recreation of its AR Sticker.

So, how do you pitch in? After you've saved your QR code on your computer, send it to us by uploading it to the AR Sticker Uploader. Once an image has been uploaded the AR Sticker will be found in the Pokémon's dex page here. You will be able to view the code by clicking the "[3D]" next to the Unova Dex number, as shown here. We ask however that you do make sure to select which Pokémon you have uploaded via the dropdown menu. TopHat and I will be checking through to validate your upload, and then it will end up in the designated page. The goal is to organize all of the codes so that people can grab their favourite Pokémon with ease, and we'd be grateful if you'd be able to pitch in.

Oh, and if you SOMEHOW forgot...

Phew, that article was a lot longer then I thought it would be. Tomorrow! Nintendo E3 conference! New console! Nintendo is streaming live! Loads of games! Get on it, and be sure to check here starting 9AM GMT-8 for the live updates. We'll post information on the console has Nintendo reveals it, and, if it's there, Pokémon information will find itself on this page.
