Understand a Typechart

A typechart shows what types and type combinations are weak to a move from any of the 17 possible attacking types. A defender with a single type is only victim to the damage multiplier of 2 for an effective attack or denominator 2 for an ineffective attack. All other attacks have a damage multiplier of 1, in other words the attack is no more or less powerful than it otherwise could be. Some attacks will not work against other types, for instance a Gengar Shadowball on Snorlax, Snorlax will take 0 damage. Dual-types may be subject to a supereffective attack, doing 4 times the damage, or a highly ineffective attack, doing 1/4 the damage.

This is the internet's best Pokémon typechart. Why? This chart provides sensible graphics (a key is not needed), row highlighting (it is easier to see damage taken across the attacking spectrum), and repetition of the attack type row (you do not need to remember which attack type is in which column). Further this chart is organized alphabetically, even with dual-types, and there is no redundancy (Fighting/Psychic and Psychic/Fighting are reduced to Fighting/Psychic).

Ontop of all of that you can click on the defending type's graphic and view a popup listing all final stage evolutions that have the respective typing.

The attacking Pokémon's move type is shown in the rows(horizontal) and the damage done to the defending Pokémon's type, or dual-type, is shown in the columns(vertical). Defending types are on the left.
