Paralysis is likely the most common status affliction. When afflicted with paralyze a Pokémon's Speed stat is reduced to 25% (1/4) of normal. In addition there is a 25% chance, each time it would attack, that the afflicted Pokémon will not be able to move/attack.
Pokémon of the Ground type are immune to paralysis that would be inflicted by an Electric attack but not paralysis caused by other attacks.
When thrown using the move Fling the item Light Ball can induce paralysis.
The ability Static can cause paralysis at a rate of 30% (3/10). This is activated when a Pokémon with Static is hit by a physical attack. Effect Spore works the same except at a rate of 10% (1/10).
The Cheri berry will cure paralysis as well as the cure-all berry the Lum berry.
The ability Hydration can remove the paralyze status when the weather is Heavy Rain whereas Pokémon with Limber are immune to paralysis.
Pokémon with Quick Feet ignore the stat reduction and recieve the 1 stage boost (x1.5) to Speed. They are still, however, incapable of attacking at a rate of 25% (1/4) of the time.
The moves Aromatherapy or Heal Bell will cure this status for everyone on the team. Safeguard can prevent this status affect from being inflicted on a teammate.
