Roaming Legends

 > Guides & Games  > Diamond/Pearl/Platinum

Unlike the other groupings of Legends the Roaming Legends are slightly more difficult to be completely prepared for and will especially require more time to capture.

With Roaming Pokémon you will want to carry the following things to be completely prepared:

  1. Repels [any kind]
  2. A Pokémon of greater speed than that of the Legends' speed, in the lead position with Mean Look in its learnset
  3. A Pokémon that can inflict Sleep or Paralysis
  4. A Pokémon with False Swipe
  5. A Masterball OR Ultra/Dark/Timer Balls (though others are fine as well)

Roaming Pokémon generally change their location when you change location. In my opinion the Route 205/Valley Windworks location is a great place to jump between two routes quickly, both with grass nearby. Simply get on your bike and ride back forth changing routes, the Pokémon tend to appear in one of the two areas fairly quickly and fairly often.

When the Legend does appear in your location I recommend dropping a Repel (that is assuming your Pokémon in the lead position, capable of outspeeding the Legend and using Mean Look to trap it, is NOT at a higher level the Roaming Pokémon). Post that it should be like any other battle.

If you saved your Masterball for one of these monsters then use it at your discretion :D

Mesprit behaves the same in Diamond/Pearl as it does in Platinum... However, in Diamond/Pearl it uses Confusion instead of the move Swift.

After defeating Galactic Admin Cyrus and facing Giratina, Mesprit will appear at Lake Valor. Once you Surf out to it's island and press 'A' to battle it, it will instead run away and you will see it's PokéDex entry. Mesprit will now be roaming the region of Sinnoh (with the exclusions of being inside Mount Coronet and the North East Island).

In Canalave City, after completing the storyline and receiving the National Dex, enter the house near the dock. There you will find the little boy has fallen ill with nightmares. You will be instructed to go to Full Moon Island and retreive the Cresent Feather. Talk to the man at the dock there and you will be taken to the island.

Once on the island enter the words and you will see Cresselia. Examine it and it will flee, but not before you get its Dex entry. Take the item back to the little boy in Canalave.

After the boy returns to good health you will be able to hunt Cresselia in the Sinnoh wildernes.

After first finishing the main plot, getting the National Dex and meeting Prof. Oak down at the Pal Park you will be able to meet him in his house in the southwest corner of Eterna City. Do so and he will tell you that Legendary Birds have been seen flying about in Sinnoh, go out into the wild and search for begin the search for them.
