The Regi Trio
The Hoenn trio of Legends, the Regi's, can be obtained in Pokémon Platinum. There is a catch to getting them to appear in their caves, however, and that is by first getting an event Pokémon, which is why I classified them as "Event Related." This particular Poké is a Regigigas that was given out with ticket preorders for the 11th movie in Japan. As of yet it is unknown how the Regigigas will be distributed in other regions. It might be a safe bet to assume it will likely appear as a TRU event in the US connected to that movie's release on DVD, as was the case with TRU Darkrai.
The Regi Trio in Platinum
These caves are open from the beginning of the game, however, they will only contain a hold item relating to the type of each Regi until you enter the cave with the event Regigigas. If your Regigigas was obtained in a trade and it does not activate this event you can be that the Regigigas you recieved is a bad hack.
Note that to active the event in each cave the movie Regigigas must first be on your team, its position 1-6 does not matter, and that you must walk on all of the circular tiles. After you walk over every tile the cave will tremble. At this time you can walk up to the stonework and press "A." The Regi will then attack!
As with the capture of all Legends it is recommended that you bring a Pokémon which can inflict the status effect Paralyze or Sleep, preferably Thunderwave. These conditions make the Legend easier to catch in addition to prolonging the length of that battle; which may be helpful if the Legend is being particularly stubborn and it nears running out of PP.
In addition, remember to save before beginning the battle, should something go wrong or you would like a chance to try again for a better nature/IVs. Timer Balls, Dark Balls, Ultra Balls, Great Balls, and even PokéBalls, at a combined total of AT LEAST 60, should be hand before engaging. If you already have the Pokémon in your PokéDex then Repeat Balls may also prove useful.
