PokéDex 3D is an application available for free exclusively from the Nintendo 3DS eShop. It is now speculated, with the revelation of this software, that the recent forced removal of third party PokéDex Apps available for download from sources like the Apple App Store is directly connected to the official PokéDex 3D. While the the removal of these arguably more useful apps can be seen as a detriment, PokéDex 3D has a few useful features for trainers and, as stated, has no price tag.

After downloading the application there will be 16, fixed, PokéDex entries automatically available to players. Aside from these 16 entries players will have to unlock new entries via a variety of methods: SpotPass (wherein you obtain three entries a day from Nintendo WFC), StreetPass (wherein you obtain new entries from a friend and they receive new entries from you), or via scanning AR Stickers. The Pokémon that are obtained initially are as follows: Snivy, Servine, Serperior, Tepig, Pignite, Emboar, Oshawott, Dewott, Samurott, Audino, Scraggy, Minccino, Emolga, Foongus, Axew, and Hydreigon.
