#87 - How Many Pokemon Will BW Introduce?
Sorry for the lack of poll creation recently, it had slipped my mind...
Anyway, vote, post a specific amount if you've got one, discuss.
Here's what Ze and I have concluded over a series of fairly long discussions on this topic. A number of new Pokémon introduced in each region are generally reserved to prominent characters in the games, such as Honchkrow and Weavile for Cyrus. This extends to gym leaders, elites, etc. We reasonably concluded that the number of reserved Pokémon in BW could be 25-35. From there you have version exclusives and legends.
We're likely to be seeing new Pokémon post-IsshuDex as well (Mamanbo not being related to Luvdisc would shock everyone). I calculated an average of Pokémon introduced in each generation (post Kanto) that are related to existing family lines. This statistic can't be considered too useful though as Hoenn had none. IIRC the average was about 19%.
Based on all of this speculation and presumption a number that is close to 100 seems highly unlikely. The reason is because while Sinnoh could get away with 107, we must also consider that there will be NO old Pokémon in the region's Dex, so the above figures are significant as they quickly reduce the amount of Pokémon that would be available in the region prior to obtaining the National Dex. Otherwise, wild Pokémon in the region would be quickly become bland, overused and things would get extremely boring.
I think around 200 could be pushing it but think we're safely looking at something in the area 151-176, the most ever.

Re: #87 - How Many Pokemon Will BW Introduce?
I am positive there will be 151 Pokemon in the regional dex, leaving at least 25-ish for the National Dex (legendaries and evolutions). With at least 25 evolutionary lines (keywords: evolutionary lines, only a few will possess a single Pokemon) that would be hard to access/later evolutions that will be hard to access.
Then there's the fact Isshu is visibly gigantic. Can we really fit just 100 Pokemon in it? I don't think so... at all. There's going to have to be A LOT of repeats, especially with some Pokemon varying based on region, and entire locations changing in appearance between the two games. There has to be at least 150 Pokemon spread across the region, with 151 being Victini.
So yeah, pretty much what nza posted is what I think (since we went over this together this shouldn't be a surprise lol).

Snap, I can't fight logic like that, but here's hoping for around 200.

More than 200!
I want this game to be epically long. So long it'll take you until the next gen is released to finish it.

158, because 651 pokemon sounds nice and rounded.

Assuming we get at least 173 new Pokemon, I wonder what number 666 will be >_>

Re: #87 - How Many Pokemon Will BW Introduce?
Quick thought here as this had just crossed my mind (though others may have considered this)...
Wouldn't Zorua and Zoroark need not be in the IsshuDex as they are obtainable only after transferring one of the event Johto Beasts/Celebi over from gen4 games? I mean, the PokeShifter would have to be an apparatus obtainable only after receiving the National Dex, right?
For those estimating the figure of new Pokemon as being closer to 150, consider that, similar to Sinnoh, we're likely looking at postDex evos (Mamanbou), postDex legends (Heatran) and now the likelihood of Zorua and Zoroark existing only in the National Dex. Besides, a regional Dex with less than 150 has never occured before...

Re: #87 - How Many Pokemon Will BW Introduce?
Wow, I hadn't even considered that. We know for sure that the PokeShifter can only be accessed after defeating the Elite Four (it was in our last CoroCoro update), so there's no reason to assume that you wouldn't need a NationalDex.
Up until now I kept having to think, "how are we going to find out where to the take the beasts in our covered playthrough?" All you could tell was that it was an unknown forest region, and that's just based on the colours of the battle's background. But now it can easily be new land that is only accessible after defeating the Elite Four, like all the areas unlocked in DPPt (specifically thinking something along the lines of Giratina's Spring).

Re: #87 - How Many Pokemon Will BW Introduce?
I bet that by at least 200 or a little bit more considerate that may be they are experimenting with new pokémon for make even better.
After all, try to make about 600-500(more or less) pokémon in a couple of one decade and some years, because i'm pretty sure that is an organization that make "fan-made" pokémon.
So then. I go to the 200

Since there will be 5th Gens ONLY until post-national, there'll be over 151. I hope around 200 though, I want post-national current-gens, like DP. I loved that formula and want it to carry on.

Unless Pokexperto is holding off on the big surprise (and didn't disclose the proper amount when he said there were 156) it appears as though there will be no National Dex Pokemon this time around =/
156 should be the final tally, all new. That is, unless we are misinformed/have been mislead.
