Yep, here is your topic to speculate characters and such.

I wonder how it'll work, since Iwata announced it as if they had cross-platform multiplayer. It's not Nintendo's thing to have two versions of the exact same game on two different consoles, so I wonder how it'll play out. 3DS exclusive characters? Two actually different games?

Well, Smash news already! Only, it's not the news you want to hear. Though I kinda predicted this much.

According to Sakurai, development hasn't even started for the games and he hasn't even considered characters. He just started signing up a team and promised he'd make it because of the possibility he sees with the Wii U and 3DS.

"We really shouldn't have announced it for the general public at this timing, but since we have to assemble staff, we made the notice. The future will change depending on the strength of the gathered developers."

So they only announced it to get things started. Not much more.

Considering Megaman's creator said that he would have been fine to have them include Megaman in Brawl if they'd asked, this seems like something that could happen.

Also, do we want Snake and Sonic back?

I'd love to see Snake return. It'll probably happen too. Kojima is close friends with Sakurai and the Wii U is bound to see some MGS in the future. The 3DS already has one game coming up.

Currently Sakurai's thought process is focused on the notion that a portable experience is a more personal one. Only one player is likely to be using a portable system, and it might be interesting to allow that player to customize Smash Bros. fighters on the 3DS, which could then be brought over to the larger world of a home console Smash Bros. Sakurai's thinking is that an element of communication between the two versions will make both better.

 A big discussion point amongst IGN staff, as well as readers, is the balance of characters. Some, like Meta Knight, seem incredibly overpowered compared to others. Sakurai noted in his discussion with Iwata that in the past he has done all of the balancing personally. He plans to involve his staff much more for these future installments.

 The foundation of the 3DS and Wii U Smash Bros. titles has yet to be established. Sakurai noted he would use Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a starting point and move on from there.
