Super EVs, Super Pokemon

Postby nebulousrl » Thu Jan 20, 2011 10:09 pm

Today I thought I would measure how many EVs I have on a Milotic I have had since Emerald, (its on my Plat. game now). And it measured with equal to or greater 520 EVs total. I thought the cap was 510. Though this doesnt shock me considering this milotic is a freak on stats. I have a process on Power Ranking pokemon, and this Milotics stats and Power Ranking are equal to or greater than a Dragonite's. I didnt cheat with this Milotic just normal EV training, maybe Emerald has problems with EV training where they end up with over 510. Does anyone else have any instances where this has happened, or have an answer to this...I wouldnt call it a problem...but a boon!

The only way it is possible to have more that 510 EV's is through hacking. gg.

I'd rather assume that he made a calculation error than that he cheated. 10 extra EV's is a 2 stat raise, barely worth it if you're going to cheat.

Isn't it actually a 3 stat raise, since 510 leaves you with two spare points anyway?

Still, a negligible increase in stats if you decide to cheat.

yeah, i figured out the prob. each berry to measure takes away 10 or less evs. If anyone knows what i am talking about then you know what is up calc error  . i just made a dooky mistake  Milotic is still a beast! odd how poke with lower base stats end up stronger than ones with higher ones.

But to keep this thread interesting, how about i list the best types down to the worst. If this is listed somewhere else i didnt copy the info, this is my own findings. i figured it based on simple ratios.

Each of these types are in different tiers, the ones in the same tiers have the same strength/weakness, ineffective/effective ratio. I will start with the best and work down.

I edited the list.

Steel +7.5
------------
Ground +3
------------
Fire
water +2
Dragon
------------
Ghost +1.5
Flying
------------
Dark +0.5
Fighting
------------
Rock par/0
------------
Electric -0.5
------------
Poison -2.5
Psychic
------------
Normal
Bug -3
Ice
------------
Grass -5

Though Grass may be the worst and Steel the best. Generally when a pokemon has a bad typing is makes up for it in either stats, ability, or move set, and steel the other way around. Good example of this would be Bastiodon, it has generally good typing but it has a horrible move set, Sturdy is a horrible ability, and when Bastiodon comes to stats it is about average when it comes to meatsheild/defensive types.(and i know my defensive types :ugeek:  ) Another with Shedinja, it has bad stats, average typing, average move set, but makes up for it in ability. A poke with grass for instance has a lot of weaknesses, but generally grass types have really cool abilities, and pretty good move sets(healing).
But to wrap it all up poke with at least 3 out these 4 characteristics are usually great in the competitive arena, and most poke do have at least one good characteristic. whether it be in stats, typing, move sets, or ability.
One more thing another good example would be the 5th gen Grass/Steel poke. It is a beast with typing, but has horrible move set, bad ability, and average when it comes to being defensivly built.

Steel is a horrible type; it has maybe two decent attacks and is weak to Fighting and Ground, two of the most common attack types.

Steel is a mediocre offensive type. It is easily the best overall defensive type.

A resistance to Bug, Dragon, Dark, Flying, Ghost, Grass, Ice, Normal, Psychic, Rock and Steel is nothing to sneeze at all. Steel Pokemon on average have great defensive stats to boot.

I'd place Dragon and Fighting higher on that list, and Fire lower.

I edited the list above. I forgot some factors, not much change.

The reason why fire is as high as it is, is because fire becomes par on the offensive side(number of strengths and weaknesses are equal) and is +2 on the defensive side. the killer for fighting types is because fighting cant cause damage to ghost types so it becomes -0.5 on offense(i call immunuties on offense or defence +1.5 or -1.5) fighting is good on defense though with a +1 advantage in typing. the reason steel is on top, ze colonel is right, because of the defensive side it is +9.5! steel is still bad on offence, -2.

I dont factor in common elements and stats to boot because that would be WAY to many factors involved. Basic ratios are easy :D

The reason dragon was beat is because elements like steel and ground simply have better ratios. Dragon is still good, equal to water and fire exactly par on off/ +2 on def.

But types lower on the list do end up most of the time with better abilities and move sets that work together(ice:snow cloak, grass: chlorophyll, bug has a lot of cool abilities:speed boost) to offset bad typing.
With this all said, I can still POWER RANK an individual poke based on typing, ability, move set, and stats. So this typing chart only is a quarter of a pokes total indivdual POWER RANKING.

Keep in mind this includes how well a pokes ability, move set, typing, and stats work together. And POWER RANKINGS will differ from Poke to Poke. Even if they are the same type of poke. Just depends on how it is built.

The reason why POWER RANKINGS are important is that it helps pick where a poke should have EVs distributed, so I can build a balanced type of poke. Though I know some poke are meant for more off or def EVs, some should still be built balanced. This is just a different, in-depth way I made up for breaking down and buiding a poke for competive battles, mainly if you like your poke balanced.

I edited the typing list above. I forgot some factors. not much change.

Yeah, the way they do it is similar to what i do, and its very cool beans (i love math and poke)! :ugeek: Though the way i use my data is so it also tiers a poke, but it helps determine where a poke should distribute EVs to be balanced based on base stats, ability, move set, typing and how each of those aspects work together. Its all awesome though, nice to see another nerdtasically-beastly way to rank a poke!!!
