Zelda in 2011

Postby Ze Colonel » Tue Apr 12, 2011 11:14 pm

So, 2011 is a big year for Zelda as it marks the 25th anniversary of the series. What's Nintendo doing?

Ocarina of Time 3D just got a confirmed release date of June 19th in North America, and June 17th in European regions. It's got a spiffy lil' boxart that I like since it reminds me of the original boxart. Now if only we could get the cartridge to be gold too... As far as the game's content goes there's "some interesting [stuff] they haven't revealed yet" but it seems to only be the original game + master quest and a visual upgrade so far. Not that any new content past that would be required to sell it to me, since I haven't played Ocarina of Time in years, so this is my chance to do it again.

Skyward Sword? A press release was sent out today to verify that it will, indeed, come out in 2011. Cool.

But what's left in the air is what will happen for the 25th anniversary. Iwata, at the GDC, said Miyamoto is working at making a "new experience... to celebrate the 25th anniversary," but that's pretty much it. Any ideas as to what you would want? Another package of games like the Mario one? Something new entirely?

Edit: Shrunk image a bit.

Game package containing all the 2d games. That would be a major want. Even just the NES games with a graphics upgrade maybe.
And an announcement of Majora's Mask for 3DS.

As for OoT3D, this is it's last chance to try and prove that it's better than MM.

Skyward Sword is also a very good reason why I might need to find someway of bring my Wii up to uni.

But seriously, where is my MM remake? V_V;

Cool, another game to add to my list of games that I've been meaning to get but haven't. v_v

I'm personally not that interested in OoT since I got the Master Quest pack for the GC but then again I haven't seen what this 3D thing can do. Still, I'm not sure if I want to buy OoT a third time... (I probably won't, seeing how I haven't gotten games that I should have by now... like TWEWY)

By the by, I don't think Nintendo releasing a stylus shaped like the Master Sword would be entirely improbable... ;)

You definitely should. While it being the best Zelda game is up to debate (I'm with SI in saying MM needs some love), there's no arguing it being a great game.

If anything, you'd be picking up a polished version of one of most critically received games ever. Something to tuck under your belt as a gamer.

Edit: OoT teaser site - http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/aqej/index.html

Can't tell if that music is anything more than just remastered but I still love it. Anyways, it shows a sample 3D effect, which makes me wonder why Nintendo didn't do this from the beginning to show off how 3D on the 3DS looks.

Basically, imagine what's on the site on your (larger, clearer) DS screen. Obviously not a perfect representation (you'd be able to focus in more and the background wouldn't curve like it's on a diagonal angle so much), but it's nice nonethless.

And since this post is all about OoT, I went ahead to find the quote from Iwata about new content...

Iwata: Well, I feel that I've started to understand, little by little, what makes Ocarina of Time special. Of course, the Nintendo 3DS version of Ocarina of Time is crammed with interesting things that weren't in the Nintendo 64 version, but we'll wait to talk about those the release.

Miyamoto: Right (laughs).

If Nintendo was smart they'd release something like this...
http://kotaku.com/#!5746427/the-zelda-b ... our-dreams

Fake of course, but it needs to happen.

Ocarina of Time is one of the best games I ever played, and I look forward to playing it again. I enjoyed all the other Zelda games of course, but Ocarina is the game that opened me up to the franchise to begin with.

But they won't just because it'll put everyone who bought it already in an awkward position.

Final trailer for OoT 3D. Apparently a lot more was remastered and redesigned than I thought. Aside from character/enemy models, map locations including temples were redone. Water Temple was apparently completely redesigned (just visually) with "hints" of some kind using lights or something in it. On the 3DS itself, the game will support anti-aliasing and will run at 30fps.

The game includes Master Quest, boss battle modes, and a couple of other features.

Paired with OoT the anniversary stuff is a free download of Four Sword on DSiWare and Link's Awakening on the 3DS eShop. Also, people who get OoT and register it quickly on Club Nintendo get sent a free copy of the game's soundtrack. There will also be Zelda concerts across the globe.

This should excite me, but unless the soundtrack is as good or better than ZREO, it's not worth it for me. ALso, probably it's exclusive for you people in more important countries.

Also, re: Link's Awakening, is that also free, or does that only apply to Four Swords?

Nah, Link's Awakening isn't free. It's 5$ iirc.

Speaking of ZREO, though the site is down and I can't get the link, they were involved with the orchestration at the beginning of Nintendo's press conference. They have a mastered version of the medley that played.

Edit: Also, here's all the different versions of the Zelda Wii U tech demo...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9uYCU8jFiU

This was done in real time, as shown by the fact (not in this video but others) you can change the time of day instantly and the game would adapt, changing all the lighting, fire, etc
